About Melville

Melville Housing Association is a charitable Registered Social Landlord supporting local communities by providing and developing high quality affordable homes and housing-related services. They own more than 2,000 properties across Midlothian, East Lothian, Edinburgh and Lanarkshire.

Background

Melville Housing engaged with HeatRHIght in 2017 to consider the viability of replacing off gas grid, inefficient heating systems in Forth, South Lanarkshire.

Melville Housing was provided with an estimate of the possible grant funding available through the HeatRHIght scheme to allow them to carry out a tender exercise.

Assistance was provided to create the specification for the replacement of current heating systems with air source heat pumps and this help proved invaluable as they did not have experience or expertise in the use of this heating type.

HeatRHIght Funding

The funding solution benefitted Melville Housing as it provided them with a capital sum that meant their contribution was reduced and they were able to bring forward the replacement of the inefficient systems as a result.

With the upgrade of the heating system in these properties, Melville Housing has met the current EESSH requirements for properties that previously failed the standard. Also, tenants have commented that their expenditure on fuel has reduced or at worst remained at a similar level to before.

Martin Sloan, Property Manager, Melville Housing

Melville Housing feels the benefits of using the HeatRHIght scheme as a source of funding is that it has allowed the acceleration of our heating replacement programme, we have ensured a group of tenants are not in “fuel poverty” and we provide a modern heating system, reducing our reactive repair costs.”
